Expedia Canada Releases New Mobile App

Expedia, Canada's leading travel provider, recently updated its mobile app. The new offering enables consumers with unique capabilities such as a modern and easy to navigate interface that lets users to search and book flights on more than 130 airlines. The mobile app is available in the Android and iPhone stores.

Sean Shannon, vice president and managing director of Expedia Canada, said he and his colleagues decided to update the app to increase customer happiness. One of the most significant changes the new app has to offer is that consumers will be able to receive mobile-only hotel deals, which also includes an improved and updated property database.

"Expedia.ca has always been about allowing travellers to book their trip, their way, and this app update brings this belief to the next level by delivering flights to the palm of their hand," he said. "We are thrilled to bring Canadians an app that allows them to book flight and hotel in Canadian dollars within the same app. Both iPhone and Android users will be impressed with the app's new sleek design, ease of use, comprehensive flight and hotel choices and speed of booking. We've worked hard to bring the online travel booking experience Canadians have come to love and expect from Expedia.ca to their mobile device."

Smartphone Apps continue to grow

Last December, Expedia executives announced they were seeing more users connect to their site from mobile devices each day. According to Hotel Management, Expedia president and CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said that mobility is their "fastest growing channel." There are currently about 130 mobile websites and its mobile apps are available in more than 200 countries. Considering the number of consumers across the globe that have smartphones or tablets, this isn't much of a surprise.

It is estimated that about 75 percent of same-day bookings on Hotwire's website come from mobile devices, and the highest average daily rate is achieved through tablet bookings. David Roche, president of Expedia's Global Lodging Group, told the source the rest of the company is looking into ways to make using the site easier and are trying various options.

“Like anything, we'll try a lot of different approaches [with this] and we'll see what works,” Roche said. “We'll have to discuss this with hoteliers, see what they can live with, then discuss it with consumers. It's definitely rolling out worldwide - it's just a question of how fast.”
